About the Journal

Aim

The Journal of Ankara Studies, published twice a year by the Vehbi Koç and Ankara Research Center (VEKAM), is a peer-reviewed journal. The Journal of Ankara Studies aims to disseminate academic studies that reveal new knowledge about Ankara's urban elements using scientific methods, regardless of subject or field.

Focus and Scope

The focus of the Journal of Ankara Studies is on studies that

  • Investigate urban characteristics in the historical process of Ankara.
  • Identify urban problems, develop solutions for these issues.
  • Contribute to the development of the city.

The journal accepts original research articles that reveal novel knowledge on the city of Ankara utilizing methodologies and approaches of humanitarian, normative, and positive sciences.

Studies beyond the scope of the journal include the following:

  • Studies that do not cover the main hypotheses, methodologies, and core findings of doctoral and master's theses, and are based on secondary findings from the thesis, will not be accepted.
  • Articles for discussion that are lacking in novel knowledge and merely reflect the author(s)' views on the subject will not be accepted for publication.
  • Literature reviews on a specific topic will not be accepted for publication.
  • Studies that do not focus on Ankara's urban characteristics, use the city only as a sample, and do not report findings specific to Ankara will not be accepted for publication.

The types of manuscripts that are accepted for publication are Research and Review Articles (For more information see “Article Types”).

Publication Frequency

The Journal of Ankara Studies is published twice a year, in June and December. No special issues are published.

Publication Language

The publication languages of the Journal of Ankara Studies are English and Turkish. Manuscripts can be submitted in Turkish or English. The submitted manuscript should comply with the grammar and spelling rules, as well as related scientific literature standards.

Turkish articles should adhere to the grammar and writing rules of the Turkish Language Association and glossaries of professional organizations (such as Glossary of Library Terms).

English articles should follow the writing rules and style outlined in the Publication Manual 7th Edition of the American Psychological Association (2020).

Digital Archiving and Preservation

All data and full text of articles published in the Journal of Ankara Studies are stored in pdf formats at the National Library of Türkiye.

Should the decision to cease the publication be made, the archive will remain accessible on the TR Index and the National Library of Türkiye.

Abstracting and Indexing

To increase the visibility and discoverability of the articles, the Journal is indexed in Ulakbim, TR Dizin, EBSCO, DOAJ, SOBIAD, ERICH PLUS, Index Islamicus, and Ulrichsweb.

Charges

The journal does not charge authors or other parties for submitting, processing or publication of an article.

No fee or compensation is paid for published articles.

Financial Statement

The Journal of Ankara Studies is funded by Koç University.

Sponsorship and Advertising

The Journal of Ankara Studies doesn’t accept sponsorship or advertisements in line with its publication policies.

Open Access Statement

The Journal of Ankara Studies is an open-access journal. All articles are published under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY) which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium or format, provided the original work is properly cited. Authors retain the copyright of their published article. By this means open access ensures more reuse and citation, higher visibility and discoverability, greater engagement, immediate impact, increased interdisciplinary work and wider collaboration.

The Journal of Ankara Studies adopts the Open Access Declaration published by the Budapest Open Access Initiative in February, 2002.
